The CODATU Association, the Urban Mobility Authority of Greater Abidjan (AMUGA), and the Climate Chance Association are organizing the International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate #CIMDC2026, which will be held from 19 to 21 October 2026 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Accelerating the transition towards sustainable mobility in response to climate change
#CIMDC2026 is jointly organized by the three organizations under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport of Côte d’Ivoire and builds on the Sustainable Mobility and Climate Week held in Dakar in 2022. It extends the momentum developed around the links between sustainable mobility and climate.
In a context marked by accelerating climate change, rapid urbanization and growing mobility needs, transport and mobility lie at the heart of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while also strengthening territorial resilience, social equity and economic development.
This event will bring together African and international non-state stakeholders — local and regional authorities, public institutions, companies, NGOs, researchers, donors and citizen networks — to share concrete solutions and strengthen cooperation in support of sustainable, inclusive and locally adapted mobility systems.
The programme will include plenary sessions, workshops and a Pitch Corner, structured around four major thematic pillars that will guide all discussions:
-
Integrating mobility and urban planning
-
Governance, financing and sustainability of transport systems
-
Sustainable mobility and climate, addressing both mitigation and adaptation of mobility systems and infrastructure to the impacts of climate change
-
Technological and social innovations serving more low-carbon, inclusive and context-appropriate mobility solutions
Objectives of the meeting
-
Highlight operational sustainable mobility solutions in response to climate challenges
-
Foster dialogue among local, national and international stakeholders
-
Encourage the emergence of partnerships and concrete projects
-
Strengthen the integration of resilience, adaptation and inclusion issues into mobility policies
The Abidjan Declaration
At the conclusion of the event, discussions and work, including a focus on better recognition and support for informal transport, will culminate in the adoption of the Abidjan Declaration. This document will highlight the key messages and priorities of non-state actors on sustainable mobility and climate action. Presented on the international stage, the Abidjan Declaration will contribute to global debates and agendas, particularly ahead of COP31 at the end of 2026.
